The Arabic Naming Test (ANT) is an assessment tool for Arabic-speaking adults suspected to have difficulties in word retrieval and lexical processing (anomia).

Overview
The ANT takes approximately 35 minutes to run with mild cases, but may take longer with severe cases. You can run the test in full or part of it depending on the aim of the assessment, and the severity of the case. It is recommended that the full test is administered in one session.
The aim of the ANT is to provide the user with a naming battery for objects (nouns) and actions (verbs). The nouns and verbs in the ANT are of varying difficulty levels and are matched for predictors of lexical processing such as:
- frequency
- familiarity
- age of acquisition
- imageability/concreteness
- healthy reaction times
- rationality/animacy
- name agreement
- word length
The tool responds to the lack of naming batteries for the Arabic language.
Uses
This test is designed to be used with adult Arabic speakers following a brain injury to assess their ability to retrieve nouns and verbs from pictorial representations, specific to the Arabic language and culture, and driven by the Arabic linguistic theory.
The ANT can be used for the first time with patients to investigate naming difficulties, noun-verb dissociations, and psycholinguistic factors influencing lexical processing:
- word frequency
- syllable and phoneme length
- familiarity
- imageability
- age-of-acquisition
- image agreement
- visual complexity
- name agreement
- healthy reaction time data
The ANT can be used for retesting a case regularly to identify progress patterns within lexical processing.
